I was experiencing the same message ("None of the items in this playlist can be burned to disc", even while trying to burn a regular audio CD.
The message appeared when I had the playlist selected on the left, then pressed burn.
I tried checking all the check boxes next to the songs in the list. This allowed me burn the disc.
It seems like a bug -- why wouldn't itunes just alert me that "no items were selected to burn"?

Holding option and clicking "shut down" will bypass the dialog box.
Alternatively, you can press Control + Option + Command + Power/Eject Key - according to this page (http://macos.about.com/library/weekly/aa021400a.htm).

My question for discussion would be: 1) would you consider buying a used LCD monitor off of ebay? 2) What new 19" LCD would you recommend in the $450 price range?
I've heard good reviews about the Dell 1905FP 19", which is going for around ~$300 on eBay. I followed instructions that I came across on the internet to reinstall mac os x as I just got an iMac second hand.
Was not given the option to 'Erase and install' and instead followed through the install and now things are not working properly.
I noted down that it was OS X 10.1.5 now it is OS X 10.1.2.
When I start up it only shows the display and the time in the top right corner. Will not display dock or finder.
Please help! What can I do to fix this?

I don't have a machine with IE6 on so can't see the issue directly. However running your page through the W3C validator shows no errors in the html so it's unlikely to be that. When you say "just highlights the input box as if it is active", what do you mean? This, unless I've misunderstood what you have written, is the default for any browser.
Can you enter text in to the input box? Any other symptoms?

Dreadnought even though i have lost a couple WU so far with the beta I am still completing some work units that are worth as much as 1700 points each. :eek: And it takes less then 24 hours to do one of those suckers. Less then 100 days to get into the top 100......I am coming.....

When Leopard was released, the minimum requirement was a machine with a 867 MHz G4 or better. The installer blocked it from installing on a machine that was lower. However, with a little bit of work, you could install it (with some caveats, depending on the machine).
So it's entirely possible that someone will release a hack that will allow Lion to run on unsupported machines.
Snow leopard was a universal binary that included Intel 64 bit and Intel 32 bit architectures. No amount of hacking could get it working on a PowerPC Mac. Similarly, Lion only includes system components and applications that are 64 bit, so no amount of hacking will get it working on a 32-bit machine.
It will have been almost 2 years since Snow Leopard was released when Lion is available. However system requirements only will have moved 11 months into the future (the last mac to go 64-bit was the MacBook in November 2006) Lion therefore has more generous legacy support than Snow Leopard did.

The 27" ACD works absolutely fine with the Apple OEM 5770 upgrade card with MDP, also with the 5870. After all, why would Apple sell these graphic cards if they didn't work with their only display? Further, my 5870 and 27" ACD get along like a house on fire. Note that you have to buy the Apple cards, not just a standard PC card like you seem to be implying

Yes, any Apple Authorized Service Center will honor the AppleCare. I have worked for two so far, and generally I would recommend them over the Apple Stores for most situations.
I think you have to send it off to Apple for it to be fixed. I'm sure that resellers don't fix products. But I could be wrong. A reseller may replace the laptop, but I'm sure they won't fix it.
Note that he didn't say reseller. That would be a different story.

The only applications that might use this are military applications. Which are most likely classified applications. But in short, no, a normal application wouldn't use it. ;)
In my line of work there are a *lot* of Apps that will happily gobble that CPU power, memory, or both. NAMD (http://www.ks.uiuc.edu/Research/namd/) will eat the CPU and ask for more, as will portions of Amber (http://ambermd.org/). NWChem (http://www.nwchem-sw.org/index.php/Main_Page) is another hog there, etc.
(Of course I don't *usually* run these local, the system I just ran a NAMD job on is a "small" cluster of 2u dell boxes with 4-way 12 core AMDs and 2GB/core for 48 core/96GB Mem per machine, 14 nodes total, but I do run them local for testing and small jobs...)
Not normal usage for most perhaps perhaps, but not military, and not out of line for use on a "pro" machine....
