Actually, the term ISO is just short for the organization that provides standards on film speed (and before it was ISO, it was ASA.) I don't see what value trying to rename it has- you still have to know what that is, and how it applies, and since you can assign that information to the term ISO and not break every photographic instruction ever made or make the remaining film cameras suddenly "different" than digital, I don't see a big gain (pun intended) in going from a three letter abbreviation to a word.

    Paul

Yeah, agreed... Although, as you point out, it wasn't even a useful term in the first place.

At least the eject button for my CF card is not called "Rewind". :p

Maybe you need to get out (from this forum) more?

    enjoy... ;)

LOL! You could have at least linked me to something fun! :D :p

To anyone who has experience or has worked at Apple can you give me the positions of a retail store by rank? like genius, specialist, store manager being #1 obviously, etc. Also which position requires additional training such as going to Cupertino.

Your baseband is not an exclusive version :/ It is in the family of sad un-unlockable children. Your brothers and sisters are 02.10 and 04.10. The golden child is 01.59.

Haha sorry, it's late t__t but yeah, unless they are magically able to unlock only 03.10, I don't see retaining the bb as any real value.

    Some of my favs...

    Super Stardust HD
    PixelJunk Monsters
    PixelJunk Eden
    PixelJunk Shooter
    Echochrome

Super Stardust is a twin-stick shooter that is a ton of fun and quite easy to learn. I really enjoy the PixelJunk games. Shooter is probably the best one, but it is a bit short. Eden is fun, but the difficulty ramps up to just BRUTAL levels. Monsters is great if you like "Tower Defense" games. Echocrome is a really neat puzzle game.

i just got this phone, the battery life isnt all that great to be honest, i think the v180 is much better, unless you need to have a camera phone, if i had a chance to chose again i would go without the camera and get the v180, there really is no difference between the two besides black vs silver and battery life and a camera

besides the batt life, which isnt bad, it just could be better, i think its a great phone, a bit heavier than i expected, but i dont mind, and i like the speakerphone as well, works very good

    NAS noob question now.
how do you transfer files between folders and drives etc?

i think thats whats putting me off is ease of file management

Ooh thats an interesting question, that you would think simple to answer. NOT!

So lets say you have the NAS with 4 internal drives and say an external off usb.

The 4 drives will typically be in an array, so one protected filesystem. Off this you can have one or more network shares using this one filesystem, each can be restricted user/pc access and can have a usage limit set.

External drives are seperate filesystems so a network share would normally need to be set up to show the contents of the external on the network.

So we end up with something like:

    Internal 4 drives = Filesystem 1 = Network share 1
    External 1 drive = Filesystem 2 = Network share 2

So say you had a file on the external and you needed it on Filesystem 1?

Option1: mount both network shares from your PC and copy from 2 to 1. SlOW
Option2: SSH onto the NAS (It's just a linux server) and type cp /filesystem2/filename /filesystem1 (Eveything is copied locally on the NAS, you're well l33t now)
Option3: SSH onto the NAS and create a softlink connecting the external drive as a folder under Filesystem1. ie. ln -s /filesystem2 /filesystem1/External (External drive will appear as a folder under the Network share 1 , now you are super l33t, proceed to IT godlyness)
Option4: Setup RTRR (real time rsync replication) the qnap NAS' can have jobs set up to replicate between filesystems. (Not as l33t, but everything is duplicated nicely)

3 Means that everything will appear under 1 big filesystem. 4 means you do it once and then never repeat it. Moving files under 1 or 3 from a pc will result in a lot of network traffic.

I'm imagining a scenario like this and wonder if it's technically doable and if it's a reasonable approach. Note that I'm a web programmer but not an iOS programmer.

A 12-person team is out in the woods on a scientific scavenger hunt for bugs. They stay in wifi range of a Mac that's running a web server with a web app I'll write. Each person has an iPad or iPhone running mobile Safari.

When one scavenger spots a gromphadorhina portentosa, he/she types its name in a web form and submits it. (Maybe we'll use abbreviations for the names!) The web app checks if a gromphadorhina portentosa has already been spotted and recorded, letting that person know. If it hasn't been spotted before, the scavenger takes a photo and collects other scientific information about the bug, which can stay on the local device until later. The purpose of the central web server is to prevent two scavengers from taking the time to record details about the same bug.

Optimizations could include using AJAX to check for matches as the user types.

Is this a practical way to do approach this problem? Are there smarter approaches I should also consider?

I have not done an SSD per say, but I have made a little side business upgrading the hard drive on 2010 Mac Mini's and selling them on ebay. After having done 10 or so of these, yes you do need to pull the logic board out slightly. The hard drive will not lift up enough to give you the angle you need clear the logic board with out pulling it out.

That said, only pull it out enough to see a small gap of air between the black beisl in the rear and the alum case.

WRT the heat sensors... I have found that the smallest amount of rubber cement works well if you you loose the adhesive when transferring the sensor. 8/10 times you will have plenty of stick left though and wont need to add any.

The black cover I have also assumed was there for air flow as well. If the SSD has a smooth surface, and not logic board to short, you probably can do away with it.

I will say that the OWC video is dead on. Follow it precisely. PAY ATTENTION TO THE SENSORS ON THE HDD. THEY BREAK VERY EASILY!!

I found that out the hard way. I have a new sensor on the way as we speak.

I second everything tek is saying. He's a smart guy :)

TEK - QUESTION - the glue...you can use standard rubber cement? It doesnt have to be a special kind of thermal glue or anything??

Lance has said he'll retire or has even retired before I think, but coming out of retirement 'just to p*ss them off' is a bit lame.

Well, I don't think he'd go to that much trouble just to taunt the French media...If he does race I think the reason will be because that's what he does, and he doesn't want to stop.

Although, maybe it would be better for him to start competing in other Tours like the Giro d'Italia - he's already put his stamp firmly on the Tour de France.

PS. Don't diss MJ - you run a good chance of being struck down.... ;)

LOL, I never was much of a basketball fan but it was sad to see such a legend fade away like he did - it was just too hard to let go.

I would recommend the Nikon 18-200mm VR. It has a great range and can do the work of two or three lenes. Its a little pricey but you may be able to find a good used deal somewhere.

No, I meant how do you EARN them?

Points are earned but WU are processed/folded by your machine to earn those points. The number of points earned per wu depends on what the Pande group has set for that kind of wu. Some wu's have variable points, you earn bonus points for getting the wu done sooner. This faq is a good place to learn more (http://folding.stanford.edu/English/FAQ).

You should be able to buy heatsink gel at any serious computer store (not best buy, et al). Please be forewarned, I've never personally done that, but I know that stuff is out there.
